When your weekend work event gets postponed, you have a plethora of PTO and a three-day weekend turns into a five-day weekend it's time to take a spontaneous road trip.
So with nothing but my backpack and my GPS to guide me I decided to check another state off my US bucket list.
Vermont.
Oh, the fall foliage.
I mean the colors. Fire reds. Burnt oranges. Vibrant yellows.
Below I highlight a few of my favorite stops through Manchester, Burlington and Mad River Valley.
do.
Sugarbush Soaring - I can't imagine a better viewpoint of the fall foliage than 4,000 feet above the sky.
Skyline Drive - the longest, privately owned paved toll roll leads you to views of the Green, White, Adirondack, Berkshire and Taconic mountain ranges.
Warren Falls - a perfect place for a swim during the summer and to enjoy the views of the multiple waterfalls, deep pools and fall leaves during autumn.
eat.
The Copper Grouse - with tavern vibes this place serves up delicious regional American cuisine and often partners with local breweries and distilleries to serve up local drink specials each night.
Monarch & the Milkweed - starting off just serving brunch this new Burlington hot spot now serves up modern twists for dinner.
Peasant - big city flavors in the small town of Waitsfield the self-taught chef cooks up delicious Italian classics.
shop.
Warren General Store - pick up some local Vermont treats to bring home while chatting with the locals over bagels and coffee.
Vermont Flannel Company - a family owned company committed to making their products in the United States while turning out some of the softest flannel shirts I've ever seen.
stay.
Kimpton Taconic Hotel - located in the charming town of Manchester, you have the pleasures of boutique hotel amenities while tucked into the picturesque Green Mountains.
Hostel Tevere - affordable yet charming house turned hostel that places you in the heart of the breathtaking Mad River Valley.
